Candle Making and Cement Vessels
A couple weeks ago I fell into the rabbit hole of candle making on Tik Tok which gave birth to a new hobby. I don't know about you guys but do you ever watch a video and say to yourself I think I can do that. Well that is what happened and now I am even making cement candle vessels with silicone molds for future candles with help from my dad. Apparently he's an expert in all things cement so that came in very handy. For fun and since I really wanted to dip my toes right away in the candle making world I started by melting some old white candles I had bought a while back and melted them in a pot while remembering to take out the wick from the melted wax. I had bought a Thanksgiving mold and wicks at Michaels and decided to put the melted wax into the turkey, leaf, acorn and pumpkin mold and let it dry. When the wax had hardened and the turkeys, leaves, acorns, and pumpkins where ready to be un molded I realized that they were too thin to be a candle so I decided to put two of each figure together to make it a thick candle. So I got one turkey and melted the middle of the back to put and glue the wick and then I put some hot melted wax on top of the back of that same turkey so that I could add the other half of the turkey if that makes sense. It ended up looking ok for my first candles I've ever made.
And for the cement vessels we have made a couple. First off is a carousel one. We have made small containers with a lid and I have used them as match containers and turned one into a candle. We Also made a huge round vessel good for a napkin holder or an olive and salt shaker holder.
So we used cement all cement to make these vessels and we made a liquidy not so thick mixture and poured on to the silicone molds let dry and un molded. More info on these vessels later on.
